Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre is a training school for actors, and is located at 340 East 54th Street in New York City. This school is associated with the Meisner Technique, which is named after Sanford Meisner. It is a non-profit, tax exempt school that is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.
It is a full time acting conservatory that focuses on the growth of actors through extensive training comprised of speech, movement and voice. A full time 2 year program is offered after which students receive a certificate and a six week summer camp is also available. All the acting faculty members were personally taught by Sanford Meisner so they can be equipped with the knowledge to pass along the technique to acting students.
The school has been named the most respected acting school in the country by Cambridge University press as well as the first among all professional training programs. Admission is based on an interview consisting of a one to two minute contemporary monologue along with supporting documents and a $75 application fee.
